The welcome signs for Lathrup Village read A Heritage of Good Living—an apt description for our city of unique homes and colorful gardens. In 1923, Louise Lathrup acquired 1,000 acres of farmland. She envisioned and began development of a community with curvilinear, tree-lined streets and gracious homes built of masonry, stone, or brick—each with an attached garage. At the time, Lathrup Village was the only place in the United States with such standards. Seventy years later in 1993, Lathrup Village was listed in the National Register of Historic Places and obtained a Historic District designation. Today, residents enjoy small-town living in the midst of a major metropolitan area. We are a close-knit community that loves and takes pride in our homes and gardens. Every two years, the Village Gardeneers and the Lathrup Village Historical Society co-sponsor a tour, showcasing some of our loveliest homes and gardens. Below, you will find photos of the 2007 Home & Garden Tour.
